2012 Chrysler 200 S Convertible
12th September 2011
After focusing on the 300 in a series of variants, Chrysler has moved on to the 200 Convertible with the unveiling of the S version at the 2011 New York Auto Show. The 200 S Convertible features more luxury and sporty characteristics than the standard version with an improved exterior and interior look. It also gets a more powerful engine in the V6 variety to bump up the power from the standard model by 110 HP. The new 200 S Convertible will go on sale later this spring with prices starting from $32,490.
“The New York International Auto Show is the perfect place to debut the new 2011 Chrysler 200 S sedan and Chrysler 200 S convertible models,” said Olivier Francois, President and CEO, Chrysler Brand – Chrysler Group LLC. “These vehicles are built with an unmistakable attitude and a signature style; and you could say the same of New York itself. The attitude may be ‘Imported from Detroit,’ but it’s definitely at home on Park Avenue.”

Chrysler released new pictures, or should we say teaser pictures, of the new 200 Sedan due to be launched next year. The new set of images does reveal the new signature front grille in full and also shows the head and taillights more clearly. By the looks of things, the 200 is going to be a nice looking car, but will it be as cool the big old 300?! Another good news about this car is that it will be available with the magnificent Pentastar 3.6 liter V6 engine as well.

A bunch of official pictures of the Chrysler 200 Convertible have hit the web sooner than expected, reviving the bad memories of the Sebring even more than the 200 coupe! But that doesn’t matter becasue as we it’s just a fling for Chrysler before an all-new model arrives, right?! But that doesn’t end there.
The 200 is a temporarily car to fill a gap in the market until Chrysler can come up with a more decent car, but according to Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne who spoke to the media at the recent Detroit Motor Show this car – both coupe and convertible versions – will be imported to Europe, rebadged as Lancia and will be sold through Fiat network. So it’s here to stay! They are even talking about the Flavia names for the rebadged Lancia.
Apart from the ugly folding roof, the rest of the 200 is pretty much the same as the coupe which means it’ll get either a brilliant Pentastar V6 or a not-so-good four-banger. One may also think that the convertible is tad heavier due to the structural work necessary for turning a coupe into a convertible.
Low-resolution, grainy and barely recognizable–sounds like a spy photo of a top-secret supercar in testing. But yesterday it was the best way to describe a new Chrysler logo, dug out of the depths of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Today, at the tail end of the marathon Chrysler five-year plan press conference, President and CEO of Chrysler Brand and Lancia Brand Olivier Francois revealed that the new logo would make its official debut at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.
The logo, which seems oddly compressed in the vertical axis, is a sort of retro-modern combination of the winged Chrysler logos of the 1990s with a modern typeface and the Chrysler name. It may be yet another visible aspect of the Fiat restructuring and rebranding of Chrysler, though the symbol also bears at least a passing resemblance to Aston Martin’s famous winged icon.
Chrysler is no stranger to the whole musical logos game, however, of late a procedure that’s tended to coincide with purchase or sale by a parent company, i.e. Daimler. The last such change saw the withdrawal and then reinstatement of the Pentastar logo, which once again appears to have gone the way of the dodo, or the Pontiac, as it were.

Chrysler :: 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6
7th September 2011
With only a 215-hp, 3.2-liter V-6 under the hood, smart shoppers held out for the inevitable high-performance version. And that’s what they get with the 2005 Crossfire SRT-6.
SRT stands for Street and Racing Technology (the number indicates the amount of cylinders) and is used already by Dodge for the Viper, the Ram, and the Neon. The Crossfire is the first Chrysler with the SRT badge.
The SRT-6 has more power, larger brakes, a stiffer suspension, and fatter rubber. You recognize this version by its deeper chin spoiler up front and the fixed rear spoiler. They reduce lift and provide better aerodynamics at higher speed.
Under the hood is the supercharged 3.2-liter V-6 engine teamed to the five-speed automatic Speedshift transmission (Chrysler calls it AutoStick) that we know from the SLK 32 AMG. In the Crossfire this powerplant delivers 330 hp and 310 lb-ft.of torque. That is slightly less than in the SLK, because Chrysler chose different parameters in the engine management system.
The underpinnings of the SRT-6 have been upgraded to deal with the higher power and torque. Engineers applied 30-percent stiffer springs and shock absorbers with a sportier setting. Power gets to the road via the large 15-spoke wheels (18-inch front and 19-inch rear) with second-generation Michelin Pilot Sport Ultra High Performance tires. ESP is tuned specifically for a sportier drive. With its European roots it is no surprise that also the SRT-6 also was tested on the famous Nürburgring racetrack and the German autobahn.
Chrysler has dropped its Sebring coupe for 2006, but retains the midsize Sebring sedan and convertible. Sebrings are available only with an automatic transmission. Dodge offers a similar Stratus sedan but no convertible.
Sedans come in base, Touring and Limited trim. A sporty new limited-production TSi sedan includes an AutoStick transmission, sport-tuned suspension and exhaust, antilock brakes, ground effects, a decklid spoiler and fog lamps. Wheels hold 17-inch performance tires.
New sedan packages are available for 2006: a Leather Value Package, a Chrome Value Package, and a Protection Value Package that includes all-disc antilock brakes, low-speed traction control and side curtain-type airbags.
Convertibles are offered in base, sporty GTC, Touring and Limited trim for 2006. Sirius Satellite Radio is a new option, and a navigation radio with a six-CD player is available.
Similar styling is evident on both Sebring body styles, led by an eggcrate grille. Sebring convertibles and sedans may look similar at a glance, but they have different front fascias, taillights and side body panels.
Their dimensions also differ. Convertibles ride a 106-inch wheelbase and measure 193.7 inches long overall, while the sedan has a 108-inch wheelbase but is 3 inches shorter. All convertibles have a power top and a glass rear window with an electric defogger.
The engine is from AMG, with 850 bhp @ 5750 rpm, with 850 lb-ft. (1150 N-m) of torque between 2500 and 4500 rpm on premium unleaded fuel. It was reportedly designed for Chrysler, but will probably be used by Mercedes in other applications (we’d expect it to appear in the Vision and perhaps the McLaren SLR). Use of the AMG engine was dictated largely by the need for high power with light weight (around 500 lb) and at reasonable development cost.
With a curb weight of just 2880 lbs. (1310 kg), the ME Four-Twelve has the weight-to-power ratio of 3.4 lbs/bhp — a new performance record. In actual Chrysler speed runs, the ME Four-Twelve goes from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds, 0-100 mph in 6.2 seconds, and it will blister through the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds at 135 mph. The estimated top speed of the ME Four-Twelve is 248 mph (400 km/h). The vehicle is designed and packaged to achieve outstanding thermal performance under extreme operating conditions. Its large capacity, high-efficiency engine-cooling system allows this engine to retain optimum thermal performance — a key advantage in the super car arena.
